[RFE/RL] A court in the Kazakh city of Qaraghandy has jailed two locals on terror charges. On May 13, a court found Valery Khadykin and Quanysh Zhumaghaliev guilty of propagating terrorism, inciting religious discord, and recruiting militants for the Daesh militant group in Syria.Khadykin, a Russian convert to Islam, was sentenced to 8 years and Zhumaghaliev to 5 years and three months on the same day. Investigators said the two were uploading material on the Internet calling on "real Muslims to join jihad in Syria."
Kazakh officials have said that hundreds of the nation's citizens are fighting alongside extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.
