| LANA chief arrested in Tripoli |

| [Libya Herald] The head of the Libya news agency LANA in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , Ahmed Saad, has been incarcerated Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw! amid claims of fraud and corruption. He is alleged to have sold property belonging to LANA and misappropriated LD 3 million, supposedly moving it to Tunisia and elsewhere. One report claims that when he was arrested he had LD 300,000 in his possession. LANA staff have told the Libya Herald that while the allegations may or may not be true, they believe the real reason for his arrest is political Dire Revenge. Appointed by the former Tripoli regime prime minister Khalifa Ghwell last summer, Saad is, they say, disliked by elements now supporting the Presidency Council. It is extremely unusual for anyone to be arrested and charged with corruption at present in Libya, although it is rampant. LANA is split into two parallel organizations, one in Tripoli, the other in Beida. |
