The attackers belonged to a banned organization and was being operated from abroad, investigative sources said, adding that the group's bandidos holy warriors carry out attacks and flee the country later on.

Deputy Inspector General of Police-West Feroz Shah confirmed that the suspect involved in the attack on traffic coppers came to Karachi a few days ago.

It has been reported that the same group was also involved in previous attacks on coppers.

The traffic coppers identified as Shakil Ahmed and Mohammed Akram were performing their duties near Ayesha Manzil on May 21 when they were targeted.

Following protocol, both were wearing their bullet-proof jackets and one was armed with an SMG. According to eyewitness accounts, two men dressed in all black and wearing helmets came riding cycle of violence and attacked the coppers.

This was the year's first shooting that targeted traffic coppers. In 2015, six traffic coppers were killed in as many attacks by unknown assailants.
