| Tensions escalate as Saudi Arabia calls Iran’s military presence in Iraq ‘unacceptable’ |

When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... has called Iran’s military presence in Iraq, as "unacceptable" and told Iran to stop meddling in Iraqi affairs. Adel al-Jubeir, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, made the comments on Sunday during a presser. He accused Iran of sowing "sedition and division in Iraq" and provoking sectarianism between Sunnis and Shias. Iran maintains it is assisting in the battle for Fallujah at the request of Baghdad and has, in turn, accused Saudi Arabia of supporting extremism. "The role of our brothers, the Iranian advisers, is remarkable. They have great military skills to face the enemy," Abu-Kawsar, a commander of the Saraya al-Jihad militia, told Rudaw on Saturday. He added that their number was "not a lot." Iran also backs the Shiite militia Hashd al-Shaabi. |

| #1 I've thought for a while that Saudi can't stand by and let Iran take control in Iraq. A Yemen style intervention is unlikely unless they can convince the US and NATO to stand aside, which may happen if Trump gets elected. Or they convince Egypt to send it's military in. Iran can fight ragtag rebels, but would stand no chance against Saudis modern weapons in an open confrontation. At least for long enough for Saudi to smash Iran's oil infrastructure, which is all Saudi would really want. A broke Iran is no threat. |
