Approx 20 50 dead inside Florida gay nightclub after mass shooting - possible Islamic connection
2016-06-12
[CNN] Approximately 20 people people are dead inside Pulse nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in the club. At least 42 people have been transported for medical treatment, he said.

Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.

"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that he had an assault-type weapon and a handgun.

Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved.

The shooting began around 2 a.m., and an officer responded, Mina said. The officer engaged in a shoot out outside the club. The gunman then ran into the club.

"That turned into a hostage situation," Mina said.

More police rushed to the scene and broke down a door with an armored vehicle. At that point police shot and killed the gunman, Mina said.

CNN affiliate WKMG video captured club goers carrying injured people from the club.

50 dead in Orlando nightclub terrorism attack, state of emergency declared
[ORLANDOSENTINEL] One gunman armed with a pistol and an assault rifle killed 50 people and injured 53 more at a gay Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning in the deadliest mass shootings in American history.

Federal and local authorities are investigating the massacre as a possible terrorist attack and say the gunman may be an Islamic bully boy. The man, whom officials have identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, was killed after a shootout with Orlando police.

Police Chief John Mina said Mateen fired the first shot about 2:02 a.m. at an Orlando police officer and then ran into the club, which held more than 200 people. Details about exactly what happened inside the club were unclear, but police said handled it as a hostage situation.

By 5 a.m., the police department's SWAT team opened fire. They distracted Mateen with an bomb and plowed into the building with a vehicle. When officers went inside, they discovered 50 dead, including Mateen, and 53 injured.

Mina said nine officers were involved in the shooting, and one sustained an injury to his eye and was saved by his helmet.

Mina credited his officers with rescuing 30 hostages from the club, Pulse Orlando, on 1912 S. Orange Ave., which is just south of downtown Orlando and near Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared the city in "a state of emergency" and Gov. Rick Scott, who is on his way here, extended it to all of Orange County.

"Tonight our community witnessed or experienced a very horrific crime," Dyer said.

In an attempt to shift family members away from ORMC, where many of the injured were taken, authorities set up an information center at a nearby hotel, Hampton Inn at 43 Columbia Street and urged relatives to call 407-246-4357.

U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, called the attack a "hate crime" because the shooting happened at a gay club.

Video shows shots being fired at Pulse nightclub
Video recorded by a witness shows the scene at Pulse nightclub in downtown Orlando during a mass shooting.
"It's no coincidence the attack took place where it did and when it did," he said.

Authorities said there is no indication of future attacks in Florida or across the nation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.

Mina said the situation is not related to a separate shooting Friday inside The Plaza Live theater in Orlando, where a man opened fire, killing former NBC's "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie and himself.

'I saw fire coming out of his gun'

It was Latin night at the club.

Christopher Hansen, who was inside, said he dropped to the floor when he heard about 40 gunshots. People ran from the bar as coppers screamed for everyone to leave.

"I just fell down and crawled out," said Hansen, 23.

"I helped someone who was on the ground. I wasn't sure if he was dead or alive," he said.

As people fled the club, Pulse Orlando posted a note to its own page that said, "Everyone get out of pulse and keep running."

Mina said some people trapped inside the club hid in the bathrooms and called 911.

Rosie Feba was there with her girlfriend for the first time.

"She told me someone was shooting. Everyone was getting on the floor," Feba said. "I told her I didn't think it was real, I thought it was just part of the music, until I saw fire coming out of his gun."

Feba and her girlfriend ran out of the club. On the way out, they saw a man who had been shot.

Feba grabbed him. Others around her called 911. Some of the man's blood stained the sleeve of her striped T-shirt.

Both Feba and her girlfriend were unharmed, but shaken. They waited in a CVS parking lot for more information.

Victims experiencing emotional trauma related to the shooting can dial 2-1-1 for support, said Ashley Blasewitz of the Heart of Florida United Way.

Looking for family

Many of the victims were taken to ORMC, where family members gathered, hoping to get information.

Florida Hospital wouldn't comment on whether it was treating any of the injured, but said they can check on names for families.

Mina called the mass shooting "absolutely terrible. ... one of the worst tragedies we’ve seen."

He said the immediate priority is to identify the dead and injured and notify their next of kin, something that he said would require people to be patient.

"Unfortunately this tragedy and the amount of bodies that are in there, the amount of victims, is going to take some time," Mina said.

Carlos Muniz went to OPD headquarters after the shooting to give an interview.

"It was massacre, basically," said Muniz, who was in the club at the time of the shooting. "And one of our friends is missing."

Muniz initially thought the shots were part of the music.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
authorities scoured the area for bombs, using robotic devices and K-9s. In addition to carrying the weapons, Mina said Mateen was possibly wearing an explosive "device."

Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, urged people to pray on what he called "a heart-breaking morning."

"It’s a horrible tragedy. We are mourning, We are sad. We are heart-broken," he said.

A mass shooting, he added, "is the worst nightmare, and we are sorry to know that it happened to us."

#90  The LE Tactical Decision post-mortem will be interesting. If, again if, a number of the KIA were initially shot and then bled out during the 3 hour period, serious assessments need to be made. After Columbine, I saw a lot of LE examination of tactics and the decision to go to early dynamic entry within the golden hour, accepting higher risk to entry teams to prevent more deaths. Too early to assess if the OPD responds had mitigating factors...

Islamist have an army of individuals who are suseptable to commit acts of terrorism by their handlers----death by a thousand cuts. O is bringing them in by the gross. The libs enable this. People will need to know that the dems are enablers of death and pubs are dhimmi enablers.

We have weak leaders and enablers of the Islamic cause. A cancer within this country. The citizens helped put them there. This country is in a crisis. Of limited comfort is that this country is not the only one in this crisis.

#62  WTF? Man with weapons and possible explosives arrested, said he was going to L.A. gay pride parade

Authorities in Santa Monica found possible explosives as well as assault rifles and ammunition in the car of a man who told them he was in town for the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood, a law enforcement source said.

Early Sunday, there was a call to Santa Monica police of a suspected prowler near Olympic Boulevard and 11th Street. Patrol officers responded and encountered an individual who told officers he was waiting for a friend. That led officers to inspect the car and find several weapons and a lot of ammunition as well as tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The car had Indiana plates. He did make comments that he was in town for the pride event in West Hllywood this weekend. Sources said they did not know of any connection between the gay nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla., early Sunday morning and the Santa Monica incident, and the investigation has been taken over by FBI.

Speaking to NBC news, Mateen’s father, named as Mir Siddique, said the act was not linked to religion but possibly homophobia.

“We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country,” NBC news said, reading out his statement.

“This had nothing to do with religion,” he added according to NBC news, adding that his son “got very angry when he saw two men kissing in downtown Miami a couple of months ago.”

Not religion. Culture. The man drove two hours to a third city (saw in Miami, lives in wherever, went to Orlando) to kill as many strangers as he could because his culture told him to. Any chance they are Pashtuns?

Omar Mateen, Terrorist Who Attacked Orlando Gay Club, Had Been Investigated by FBI

The senior law enforcement source reports that Mateen became a person of interest in 2013 and again in 2014. The Federal Bureau of Investigation at one point opened an investigation into Mateen but subsequently closed the case when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.
“He’s a known quantity,” the source said. “He’s been on the radar before.”

Mateen was a U.S. citizen; his parents are from Afghanistan, CBS News reports.

The senior law enforcement source told The Daily Beast that Mateen was born in New York and was married for a time to a woman from New Jersey.

#16  What if they think that now is the time to strike, before he can stop them?

A good way to get Mr. Trump elected, despite the headwinds of non-support by the Republican establishment.

#15  Mike, that's exactly what "they." the GOPe and the dem crime machine ALL think...

#14  ...Have been thinking about something all morning, and I hope I can put this with some coherence: What if those predisposed to terrorism and those who are specifically sent here to commit terror actually believe Donald Trump? What if they are starting to believe that Trump will not only be elected, but will go after them unlike anyone previously? What if they fear he will never let them swamp us the way they have other nations? What if they fear he will deal with them the way they deal with others?

What if they think that now is the time to strike, before he can stop them?

#13  Do you think the Left will take notice now that the muzzies have attacked something they do care about, or does the suicide pact remain in effect?

My prediction - blame it on global warming and try to ban guns.

#12  Was he just a gay-hating muzz (oops, redundancy alert), or did he have "boyfriend problems?" Inquiring minds want to know, but don't expect the gummint aligned media to supply any answers...

#10  Welcome to the battlefield, in the ongoing game of Islamic whack-a-mole. You can either a) try to talk your shooter out of shooting you or b) return fire. There is no middle ground.

#7  One thing for certain you can no longer believe the media. We had a young fellow found dead in a river here. Drugs were the cause no foul play in bold letters in headline. Rumors were incorrect. Reality is he owed 10000 to a drug gang and they sent a fellow to fix the problem. When the problem was fixed it set an example. Drugs are everywhere all across this country. With this administration everything fails.

#6  While ISIS cheers the carnage, the media unwraps their "lone wolf extremist" hog wash non-judge mentalism paragraph.

#4  If there's lots of reporting on obooboo's golf and his daughter's graduation parties, you will know the "angry white male" shinola was not going to pass muster on this story...

#3  I'm certain that the left-leaning punditocracy.....

is working feverishly to craft the connection between Trump's Islamic immigration and visa cautions and helpless mooslim victims of racism.

#2  Well, the longer it goes without the shooters name and pic splashed all over the media, the more certain it is that the gunman wasn't Billy-Bob Redneck the notorious Tea Partier/Trumper.

I'm certain that the left-leaning punditocracy is weeping into their Sunday morning mimosas over that. OTOH, the CAIRistas are tuning up their patented "not a real Muslim/ROP/Backlish" whine to the point where it will sound like an old-fashioned air raid warning siren when they cut it loose.

#1  Obviously one of those violent Trump supporters.

If this turns out to be a Muzzie Trump will probably get a big lift.
