| Shaboobs attack Army base outside Marko |

| Al Shabaab fighters have staged a massive attack on a military base belonging to Somali National Army (SNA) which locates outside the southern port city of Marko, 120Km south of Mogadishu. Fighting has erupted at SNA outpost, 8 kilometers away from Marko after Al shabaab fighters and Govt troops have engaged in a fierce gunfire that last for several hours on Sunday morning. The commanders of the Somali federal government troops at the raided base say they repulsed and fought off the Al shabaab attack. However, there were immediate reports of the casualties on both sides. Al shabaab has stepped up attacks in Somalia, targeting army bases, hotels and government installations in Mogadishu and elsewhere in the country as Muslims fasting Holy month of Ramadan. |
