Turkey, coalition forces kill 8 ISIL militants in northern Syria
2016-06-26
At least eight Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists militants were killed in northern Syria on June 24 during a military operation carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces and the U.S.-led anti-ISIL coalition, Turkish security sources said on June 25.

The sources, who spoke to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said 31 ISIL targets had been hit in two airstrikes, while five buildings used by the jihadist group were also destroyed in the operation. ISIL was reportedly preparing to attack Turkey from northern Syria, the sources added.

Meanwhile, Turkish warplanes also carried out airstrikes on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in Iraq's Hakurk region and Turkey's southeastern provinces on June 24. According to Turkish General Staff’s statement issued on Jan 25, Turkish fighter jets bombed Hakurk region between 19:00 GMT and 19:46 GMT, and destroyed two targets.

Eleven PKK targets were also destroyed in Turkey's Kars, Şırnak and Hakkari provinces, the statement added.
