Targets of the air raids included a medical centre and a school, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and rebel sources. Thirty civilians and two medics were killed. The Observatory said that many more residents were maimed in the strikes, which rebels believe were in retaliation for the killing of a Syrian pilot the day before.

A Syrian warplane crashed in the rebel-held area northeast of Damascus on Friday. State media says the plane went down because of a technical fault but the rebel group Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...claimed to have shot it down.
The pilot ejected and was captured. He was killed by a fighter with the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front while being held at a joint command centre.
After images of the dear departed pilot were shared on social media, the Syrian army warned of a strong response to the killing.
Jayrud had largely been spared bombing in the Syrian civil war, now in its sixth year, after striking a truce with the Syrian army. It became a haven for thousands of civilians fleeing the fighting in nearby areas and is densely populated.
