Oh my: Federal judge rules Virginia delegates aren’t bound by state law requiring them to vote for Trump
2016-07-13
[HOTAIR] Virginia can’t require Republican National Convention delegates to back Donald Trump, a federal judge in Richmond said Monday, though he made no ruling on whether the party can itself bind its delegates.
Following that logic, there's no reason for a primary.
U.S. District Judge Robert Payne said the Virginia state law requiring delegates who oppose Mr. Trump to vote for him next week at the party’s convention creates “a severe burden” on First Amendment rights.

But Judge Payne explicitly avoided weighing in on whether Republican National Committee rules requiring convention delegates to follow the results of their states as dictated by state and national party rules. Judge Payne said he “lacks jurisdiction to adjudicate” the broader unbinding question.

#18  Also, wouldn't this ruling allow Hillary delegates to vote their conscience as well?

Assuming they have one.

#15  Alan, if the GOP implodes fascism will look good with respect to where we will head. Hillary is a Marx/Lenin socialist. She desires a larger fed to step over all things. She is following the Trotsky model. A subtle difference is Marxism definitively leads to. Socialist fed. Her it takes a village shit is clearly in that vein.

#14  And doesn't the constitution leave election issues to the states? Why is a federal judge involved?

#13  Wouldn't Trumps delegates be folks chosen by Trumps people?

Also, wouldn't this ruling allow Hillary delegates to vote their conscience as well?

#12  Well, wouldn't that decision also release Hilly's delegates?

#10  These old Republicans need to understand their antics are delusional and they are placing more than just this election cycle at risk.

They don't care. They actually believe they will be allowed to like their master's bowl after she's done. Delusional fools.

#8  The Facists don't want state ownership they want state control via their handpicked oligarchs
What difference does that make?

#7   a more Marxist state.

49Pan, I think it will be a Fascist not Marxist state. The Fascists don't want state ownership they want state control via their handpicked oligarchs who are set up to take the blame if things go to wrong.

What the two ideologies have in common is control and power and NO liberty.

#6  First Amendment? What about Breech of Contract? Judge Payne is playing a sophist's word game.

#5  The heads of both parties have come out and said the primaries really don't matter because the party gets to choose, in spite of the vote. Like Trump or not, if the GOP fails to select him it will mark the end of the GOP, and probably the republic as we know it. This is not sky is falling silliness. If the GOP fails here the party will go into disarray and at best dissolve and go through restructure. This will take a number of election cycles to do. The Dems will place libs in the Supreme Court. They will attack everything conservative and we will slide into a more Marxist state. These old Republicans need to understand their antics are delusional and they are placing more than just this election cycle at risk.

#4  Considering the system was set up so each state was in charge of its election process and the feds stayed out of it so they didn't interfere with it...

Yeah, I would say that the political elite are doing everything they can to trash the constitution, the system we have and our freedoms to stay in power.
