| Former insurgent wounded by gunmen in southern Thailand |

| [Bangkok Post] A former separatist insurgent who switched sides and served for a time with a ranger unit was seriously injured by gunmen near his home in Pattani province Wednesday morning. Mayo district chief deputy investigator Muhammad Madwang said Masueki Chelo was returning to his home in tambon Pado at about 1 a.m. when he was ambushed by gunmen lying in wait near his house. He was hit three times, and admitted to the in a serious condition. Mr Masueki is a former member of the united front separatist movement who surrendered. He later served as a ranger before resigning to make a living from tapping rubber and other jobs. |
