Some news, much creation of the myths that will be taught to schoolchildren about the Great Man and the evil men who dared oppose him.
Suspended Sentence to Turkish Officers who Fled to Greece after Coup Bid
[An Nahar] A Greek court on Thursday sentenced eight Turkish military officers who fled last week's failed coup to suspended two-month prison terms, an AFP reporter said. The officers, sought by Turkey to face a military trial at home, have requested asylum in Greece and will remain in police custody until their cases on that issue are heard early in August. The prison sentence for illegal entry was suspended for a three-year period, the court in the northern city of Alexandroupoli said, taking into account that the men felt threatened.

Turkish Parliament rubber stamps state of emergency bill
[Hurriyet] Parliament approved a bill to introduce a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 21, a day after the government declared a three-month long state of emergency throughout the country. Some 346 deputies voted in favor of the bill while 115 deputies voted against it.

At least that's what Hurriyet claims. There are tanks and people in uniform to be seen in the video at the link. Who, when, at what they are firing I would not dare say.

President Erdoğan’s chief aide admits 'mistakes' but denies link to coup, Gülenists
[Hurriyet] President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s chief aide-de-camp, who was arrested as part of the wide-scale investigations into the July 15 failed coup attempt, has reportedly accepted that he made “wrong choices” on the night, but denied charges that he was involved in the coup attempt.

Gülenists within Turkish Armed Forces defied orders from PM, HQ: Military
[Hurriyet] The TSK received intel from National Intelligence Service (MİT) at around 4 p.m. on July 15 regarding a planned coup attempt and asked for measures to be taken, but the orders were not carried out by followers of Fethullah Gülen, a U.S.-based Islamic scholar said to be behind the plot, the statement said.
More orders at 19:26 p.m., 19:56 p.m., 20:31 p.m., and 21:45 p.m., which suggests careful documentation by someone concerned about being questioned later.

AKP deputy describes attack on Erdoğan’s hotel during failed coup attempt
[Hurriyet] A ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy, who was with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 15 during the attack on his hotel in the Marmaris district of the southern province of Muğla amid the failed coup attempt, has described the night of the attack, saying Erdoğan left the hotel 45 minutes before the coup plotters arrived.

During his interview, Öztürk said Erdoğan “never considered going to the Greek island of Rhodes,” despite it being only around 15 minutes from his hotel.

“We didn’t even talk about going there. He didn’t say, ‘I could go to Rhodes and be safe.’ I’m proud of myself for doing politics with this kind of leader,” he added.

Suspensions, detentions, arrests continue after coup attempt in Turkey
[Hurriyet] A total of 29 personnel from Turkey’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) were suspended from duty on July 21 as a part of the ongoing and extensive probe into the failed coup attempt of July 15, which has resulting in thousands of suspensions, detentions and arrests across the country.

According to a statement issued by the body, 29 personnel working in various positions at the media watchdog were suspended as part of an investigation into the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Structure (FETÖ/PDY).

Meanwhile, the authorities of 14 top military judges detained in the wake of the July 15 failed coup were revoked on July 21 by Turkey’s top military disciplinary body.

The High Disciplinary Committee revoked the authorities of seven members of Turkey’s High Military Administrative Court – including two colonels – who were detained after the attempted coup.

Separately, the committee also decided to revoke the authorities of seven Military Supreme Court judge colonels who were detained.

Detentions and arrests against thousands for alleged links to the coup attempt and the FETÖ/PDY, which is suspected of masterminding the attempt, have continued. The July 15 coup attempt by a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) failed but caused the death of at least 246 people, including members of the security forces and civilians.

Meanwhile, Istanbul’s Criminal Court of Peace remanded 32 out of 86 detained judges and prosecutors, judicial sources said early on July 21.

The 86 suspects had been initially charged with attempting to overthrow the government, sources said.

In the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, 13 out of 17 detained judges and prosecutors were arrested, while in the western province of Aydın 27 people, including four judges and two prosecutors, were remanded in custody.

Two of the suspects were charged with gathering money for “benevolence” and sending it to U.S. schools allegedly affiliated with the Gülen movement.

In the southeastern province of Şırnak, 387 soldiers, six prosecutors, six judges and four police officers were also arrested, while authorities in the Mediterranean province of Antalya arrested 29 judges and prosecutors over alleged links to the FETÖ/PDY.

No obstacle to extending state of emergency beyond initial three months - Erdogan
[en.trend.az] No obstacle to extending state of emergency beyond initial three months, Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with Reuters agency.

In his first interview since declaring a state of emergency following the abortive coup, Erdogan said a new coup attempt was possible but would not be easy, saying "we are more vigilant".

"It is very clear that there were significant gaps and deficiencies in our intelligence, there is no point trying to hide it or deny it. I told it to the head of national intelligence," Erdogan told.

The purge will continue, new Gulen dossier to be sent to U.S.
[Hurriyet] The efforts to cleanse state bodies of Gulen sympathizers will continue, and those with even the slightest link to the organization will be removed from their positions, Kurtulmus said, while stressing that they will be very careful to not punish the innocent.

Although thousands of soldiers and high-ranking officers have been detained, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will not suffer personnel shortages as the Supreme Military Council (YAS) will convene to decide appointments and retirements in early August as planned, the deputy prime minister also stated.

On the extradition of shady Pennsylvania-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen from the United States, Kurtulmus said a new dossier on Gulen’s role in the attempted coup would be sent to the U.S. authorities within 10 or 15 days.

"Law, friendship and our strategic relationship requires immediate extradition of this person. We definitely want him from the United States," he said, while also complaining about a "lack of empathy" on the U.S. side
