Five suspected militants killed in Chitral's Kalash valley
2016-08-04
PESHAWAR: At least five foreign militants were killed in Chitral’s Kalash valley on Tuesday in an intelligence-based operation by security forces.

“Security forces spotted movement of militants from Afghanistan in the border area of Bumburate village of Kalsh valley,” said security officials.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a targeted operation in the area to hunt the militants, added the security officials.

“Five militants were killed in an exchange of fire, we also recovered heavy weapons from the militants after a search operation in the area,” confirmed the officials.

After the operation, security was increased in the area.

Earlier, militants from across the Afghan border continued their looting spree in the Kalash valley and herded away about 2,500 goats from a pasture in Birir.

In another attack on the Kalash community's shepherds, shepherds in the Bumburate valley had resisted the robbers and exchanged gunfire but the attackers captured two of them and killed them on the border.

People of the Kalash community live in the contiguous but segregated valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur in south Chitral and all of them border Nuristan.

The incidents of loot and plunder had spread fear among the residents of the valleys.
