Breaking: Delta Airlines worldwide reservations system Tango Uniform
2016-08-08
[ABC] Frustrated travelers experienced long waits at airports worldwide on Monday as Delta Air Lines grounded all flights due to a computer system outage.

Delta's official Twitter account offered up a slew of apologies to annoyed fliers who tweeted their complaints to @Delta.
Fox news reporting, same subject.

#10  Mehhh, why not - I'm p.o.ed that AQ named their knew magazazine "D *** MN IT"! instead of "D **** NG IT"!

After all these yarns, men, I work-n-I-slave and still AQ got it wrong ... albeit to my shame I do tend to say "G ** D **** IT" many times.

IF ONLY ZARQHAWI HAD BEEN SLIGHTLY OLDER ...

#7  Delta outage: Ground stop lifted, CVG flights resumed

CINCINNATI -- Delta flights to and from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport have resumed after delays and cancelations affected Delta flights worldwide, Delta Air Lines officials said.

At 8:45 a.m. Monday, Delta said the airline's "ground stop has been lifted and limited departures are resuming" but "cancelations and delays continue." At 9:18 a.m., CVG tweeted that Delta flights have resumed normal operation. However, lines are still long and delays and cancelations can still be expected.

The cancelations are due a power outage in Atlanta that caused computer malfunctions for the company across the globe. Delta officials said in a statement that the outage began at around 2:30 a.m.

Delta customers traveling today through Friday are eligible for a waiver for rescheduled flights. Read more here.

I guess the general public doesn't need to know exactly how the power outage occurred. Good find, SteveS.

#6  from flyertalk: According to the flight captain of JFK-SLC this morning, a routine scheduled switch to the backup generator this morning at 2:30am caused a fire that destroyed both the backup and the primary. Firefighters took a while to extinguish the fire. Power is now back up and 400 out of the 500 servers rebooted, still waiting for the last 100 to have the whole system fully functional.

#5  How long does it take to reboot a global flight scheduling system? Some inept airlines administrators are busy firing their IT Operations staff. Maybe the last 'glowing' audit bears some retro-spection.

Blame it on a SCADA hack?

#4  Hope they're fixed by next week.

Chirpy 'coordinator' here in office booked me on the 'D' via Cleveland Hopkins to fly west.

Adds 4-6 hours to my flight times, but I'm sure it was cheaper somehow.

Glad 'connector' wasn't Hartsfield.

#3  Who done it? Conspiracy theorists want to know.

Who will Alex Jones and Infowars blame? Obama? Terrorists? Donald Trump's mouth? Hillary's short circuited brain?

I say it was The Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects them.
