Hackers hit Arizona, Illinois voter databases
2016-08-30
[USATODAY] A suspected Russian hacker probed a voter registration database in Arizona and another unidentified attacker gained entry to one in Illinois this summer, the FBI said, prompting the agency to warn states election boards should conduct vulnerability scans.

No actual voting election systems were seriously compromised, officials said.

Systems taken offline

Election officials in both states confirmed they took their voter registration databases offline briefly last month as they became aware of attempted breaches to their systems.

Matt Roberts, a spokesman for the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office, said state authorities were notified last month by the FBI of the suspected hack, when it was discovered the username and password of a county election official were being circulated online.

#8  ...and janitor closets. Inky thumb on the paper ballot should give anyone pause to press a hundred times or so.

#7  I seem to recall discoveries of ballot boxes in car trunks in the not-too-distant past.

#6  The push by Democrat politicians to go to electronic voting by using software/hardware companies that were cronies was always a subtext even before the last 8 years. They knew that massive voter fraud was always difficult to cover outside of the the infested inner city precincts. But.....electronic voter fraud is the ideal Stalinesque solution, its the whole idea of being able to set the counter through an algorithm that chooses the number of votes for their candidate at the point of initial count. Then every audit is spotless, and they decide everytime who wins.....It's just now they discovered they didn't count on a foreign power with high order skills to use their system for a candidate other than their own!
Paper ballots must remain the only method of voting. Its much much harder to cheat on a large scale when the old biddies at each polling place are watching....

#5  Paper.

And what is a voter registration database doing online anyway? Put that server behind a firewall and off the internet where only authorized personnel have access to it.

#4  ...but, but the media won't have their breathless instantaneous results show (and three ring circus). Considering the Electoral College won't meet till December, yeah, lets do the paper thingy.

#3  Forget about the electrons. Go back to paper ballots. Worked pretty well in the past.

#2  Putin's doing it! Putin wants to influence the election! Putin wants Trump to win!

{Therefore}

If Trump wins, it's because Putin stole the election for him, so the White House belongs to the Clintons. Again.

Since I believe The Big O is planning for retirement, not a third term.

I guess you can say that since the systems aren't really being used right now.

Systems taken offline

Because there was very little danger.
