| Yorkshire Ripper to 'convert to Islam' in jail after Muslim prison gang offers him protection and access to a special diet |

| [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] The Yorkshire Ripper is said to be planning to convert to Islam after he was promised protection in prison from Moslems. Peter Sutcliffe served 32 years at Broadmoor psychiatric hospital before he was moved back to prison, at HMP Frankland, in August. According to the Daily Star the murderer is keen to convert to Islam after he was told he could access a special diet and be taken under the wing of Moslem gang members. Sutcliffe has had death threats since he was moved to the high security prison in County Durham. According to the Daily Star, one Moslem inmate told Sutcliffe he was a marked man in prison and would be dead within a month unless he had friends to protect him. It is understood that the gang has arranged for Sutcliffe to have a meeting with a prison imam ‐ a Moslem holy man ‐ in the next few weeks. It is thought to be the same gang that befriended Levi Bellfield, who now goes by Yusuf Rahim. HMP Frankland is also home to Ian Huntley, and only takes prisoners with sentences of four years or more, whose release would be dangerous to the public. Sutcliffe, who has been in Broadmoor since 1984 after he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia following his life sentence in 1981, will continue to have his mental health assessed in prison and could be returned to a psychiatric hospital if there is a change in his condition. It has been estimated that the move will save the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of pounds. |
