| 3 Abu Sayyaf suspects nabbed in Zamboanga City; bomb plot foiled |

| [NEWSINFO.INQUIRER.NET] Police said it has foiled a planned kaboom following the arrest of three suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf ...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder... Group here on Monday afternoon. Senior Superintendent Luisito Magnaye, city police director, said members of the Zamboanga City Police Intelligence unit incarcerated Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! three suspected bombers and recovered bomb materials at the Atilano’s Pensionne House in Barangay Canelar. One of the three suspects was identified as Alfad Pahad Colayan. Magnaye said the suspects were still being interrogated to determine details of their alleged kaboom plan. |
