Mortar bombs wound five civilians in Mogadishu
2016-10-09
Suspected Al Shabaab fighters fired several rounds of mortar shells on Wadajir district on Saturday evening, targeting Mogadishu airport, witnesses said.

Huge explosions could be heard by residents in Bulo Hubey neighborhood close to the airport, with reports that five people were wounded the mortar attack. Those injured in the shelling include children and they were taken to hospital for treatment. There were no confirmed reports of any death casualties.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab insurgents have carried out a string of similar bombings in the past.

Somali security forces cordoned off the scene around the sites which were hit by the mortar bombs, and launched an investigation into the incident.
