At least 12 migrants die in stormy seas off Libya
2016-11-03
At least 12 migrants died off the coast of Libya on Wednesday after they put to sea in stormy weather, the Italian coastguard said, adding that many others might have died in the incident, Reuters reported.

Some 29 people were rescued when their rubber dinghy started to take in water 25 miles (40 km) north of Libya. An Italian navy helicopter took part in the rescue operation, helping ferry survivors to safety.

"The dinghy was put to sea despite very bad weather at the time," said a coastguard spokesman in Italy.

Twelve bodies were recovered, but it was not clear how many people might have originally been on the boat and rescuers are continuing to sweep the area in search of other possible victims.

#9  I found myself at the jukebox. Must have blacked out again. Thinking. Yusuf Islam is playing. I dig that guy, the ups, the downs. He's digging that five string like a cat in a sandbox, deep enough to loosen a falafel lunch. I heed the call to my favorite spot. Reading the stall wall, underneath three strange words I see it! A cartoon drawn by Mahmoud the Weasel. I can recognize his work on a moonless desert night.

I figured he was around, but I've never seen him. Could he have been the captain's bartender?

#8  I turned back to my drink, when suddenly, a shot rang out. I spun around. Meisha was staring at the mook, who was sitting at the table with a shocked expression on his face and not moving. For a second, I thought he was shot, but the bullet didn't hit him. It had hit the whiskey bottle. Perhaps I should grab the bucket, salvage what I can. I don't know what other inventory Sirte still has of scotch...

#7  Today being the first day of the rest of my life, I looked around at the dockside bar. Maisha was still looking out the window, the little automatic in her left hand, and the bucket of ice and bottle of scotch still at her old table, being watched by the mook. He looked like the sort who would be dangerous if he ever paid attention. I mean, I have my overactive bladder, but what's his excuse?

#6  Shots were heard as the boat captain next to me called for another round of Jagr. The drapes blew as Maisha repositioned herself at the window. I was getting that uncomfortable feeling. Returning from the loo, the captain and the boat were gone, leaving me stranded in Sirte, alone, ponderous.

#1  Desperate Moslems fleeing the Moslem sh**hole. Going for Italy to turn it into another Moslem sh**hole. Hard to feel sorry for them. They are with Allah now, look at it that way. That makes it good for them and good for you. Win/win.

And we get a reprieve from all praying with our butts in the air.
