Kurds claim Bashiqa victory
2016-11-17
[ARA News] Bashiqa – The Kurdish President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday announced the defeat of ISIS in a ceremony in the town of Bashiqa, which was recaptured by Kurdish Peshmerga forces last week. He also rebuked comments by US officials that the Peshmergas will withdraw to pre-ISIS borders.

“There will be no negotiations about territories liberated by Peshmerga before the Mosul offensive,” he said. “ISIS will continue to threaten the Kurdistan Region as long as they remain in Mosul. This is a new chapter. ISIS is on the path to defeat. Peshmerga shed blood to free Kurdistan’s land and end suffering of our people.”

“I know the heroes we’ve lost. I know their sacrifices. They protected a nation and our dignity. We have sacrificed more than 11,500 martyrs and wounded heroes in this fight. ISIS is on route to lasting defeat,” Barzani said. “We have lost brave heroes. We will never recover from the deep wounds. The world is proud of the Peshmerga – they embody heroism.”
