Obama Leaves Office With Strong Taliban, Crumbling Afghan Gov’t
2016-11-17
[DAILYCALLER] Afghanistan’s parliament dismissed seven cabinet ministers in a single week, deepening its political crisis amid historic Taliban battlefield gains.

President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
campaigned in 2008 on a promise to withdraw troops from Iraq and win the "good war" in Afghanistan. After surging troops to nearly 165,000 in 2011, he precipitously withdrew them and ended the U.S. combat mission in Afghanistan in 2014.

Since the end of the U.S. combat mission in 2014, the Afghan government has been roiled by political crisis. Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
governs in a tenuous power sharing agreement with Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
, his main political rival. The Afghan parliament’s move is reportedly an attempt to clear a way for Abdullah to rise to the rank of prime minister.

As Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
squabbles over political power, the Afghan Defense Forces are suffering historic casualties in their fight against the Taliban. Afghans suffered 15,000 injuries in the first eight months of 2015, with 5,523 ending in death. The numbers reflect a beleaguered force with an astoundingly high rate of attrition.

#3  "The Good War!" "Obama's War!" "Didn't he end up killing ole what's his name over in Pakistan??!!" That is all we heard from the press for years.

An AAR of this Administration reveals that Joe Biden, believe it or not, was 100% correct on both Afghanistan/Pakistan and Iraq. Joe thought the real enemy was in Pakistan (he was right - still is), and that Iraq should be split into three smaller states (well, two states and a caliphate, but who is counting...) Obama and Clinton dissed the only good advice that ever came out of old Joe.

#2  ISIS, the Taliban and the Afghan National Forces have been taking casualties at high rates

ISIS has had several hundreds killed since early 2015, the Afghan National forces have lost well over 10k, Taliban probably over 20k - civilian fatalities also in the thousands

Trump will inherit a truly awful situation in that country.

wasn't much of a campaign issue
