HC orders to arrest attackers of maimed father within 72 hours

[Dhaka Tribune] The High Court has ordered police to arrest the attackers of a father, who has lost his both legs in the attack for protesting the stalking of his daughter at Noldanga village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah, within 72 hours.

In a suo-moto rule, the HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah yesterday also ordered the district superintendent of police to file a report in this regard before the court by November 27.

The HC move came as a news item on the incident, published in a daily newspaper yesterday, drew their attention.

Both legs of victim Shahanur Biswash had to be amputated because of his injuries he had received while the stalkers of his daughter beat him up on October 16, according to the report.

The father, who is a peasant, is undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly called Pangu Hospital.

After the incident, police had allegedly denied lodging any case against the attackers.

Later, Shahanur’s family filed two cases with a local court accusing 23 people.
