Fat Boy to Trump: Drop Hostile Policies
2016-11-24
North Korea's Foreign Ministry in a nine-page statement on Monday called on the U.S. to drop its "hostile" policies toward Pyongyang. The North has "chosen the path to nuclear armament as a way of self-defense... from constant nuclear threats from the U.S.," the statement said. This seems to be a thinly veiled appeal to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump to overhaul North Korea policy.

The statement lists what it calls the U.S.' "political, military, and economic hostilities since 2012."

"Five years have passed" since the North began a full-scale confrontation with the U.S. to counter "the U.S.' hostile maneuvers and nuclear threats" after former leader Kim Jong-il's death.

Washington should look squarely at the North's "changed strategic status" and show with deeds that it will "stop anachronistic hostile policies toward the North and nuclear threats," it continued. "This alone will be a starting point for a solution to all problems."
