CNN: Why David Petraeus would be a smart choice for Trump's secretary of state
2016-11-29
Hard sell by Peter Bergen, CNN's national security analyst. Why?

#15  The EUSSR won't exist by the end of Trump's Presidency.

#14   If Petraeus were to be tapped for the job, from Day One he would be one of the most well-informed and well-qualified secretaries of state in the post-World War II era.

#13  What, pray tell, is our Objective in Syria?
Something like doom, disaster, &/or utter catastrophe. Or maybe WW IV.

#9  the greatest foreign policy problem the Trump administration will inherit, which is the Syrian civil war.

Self-inflicted wound like the Spanish Ulcer suffered by Napoleon Bonaparte. What, pray tell, is our Objective in Syria?

#8  The precedent has been set - Sec of State need not comply with security regulations.

The author was apparently not thinking about our present and former SoS, who were judged to be well-qualified by the Smartest Man in the Room and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

#6  If CNN likes it, it ought to be a warning to Trump.

#5  Don't forget letting Iran off the sanctions hook and giving them and the Norks the bomb.

#4  Does seem the Syrian conflict is an easy one to disentangle with. Any forces we have in the region can pull back into Kurdish Iraq.

#3  Let the Syrians and the Russians untangle the Syrian war. Let Giuliani be SoS.

#2   untangle the greatest foreign policy problem the Trump administration will inherit, which is the Syrian civil war.

From the article. This idiot thinks THAT's the biggest problem? Nothing about China? Or the EU? Or Russia?

Thimblewit was invented for this level of perspicacity.

#1  As one of the soldiers betrayed by GEN(R) Petraeus actions, I hope that he is not selected and is allowed to retire in peace. We looked up to him and he let us down...he preached our values, but wouldn't live by them.

Ole Dave's lack of character, loyalty, and just plain weirdness at the end disqualifies him.

The Dems would love a guy with these baked in weaknesses to serve in the administration...a conviction for mishandling classified info and severe character flaws. Not sure what our upside is if appointed.
