| [ALMASDARNEWS] The last Syrian Air Force base in east Homs is now in grave danger as the so-called "Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. ISIS began their assault by seizing several sites north of the T-4 Airbase, including the airport's hangars and Russian military base that was built several months before the terrorist offensive in east Homs. While reinforcements have arrived in eastern Homs, it is not likely that they will have much of an affect on the battle due to the Islamic State's superior numbers and geographical advantage. According to a military source at the T-4 Military Airport, the situation is currently very tense, with the Islamic State repeatedly storming sites after being repelled a number of times prior. Losing the T-4 Military Airport would not only be a public relations disaster for the Syrian Arab Army, but it would also delay any potential counter-offensive they were planning near Palmyra. The other issue they face is the potential loss of Quraytayn, which is located south of the T-4 Airport and directly east of the Qalamoun Mountains. |
