My theory is they've internalized Hitler's fuhrerpinzip without realizing it. They don't campaign to elect chief executives so much as god-kings, and have convinced themselves their candidates are just shy of being deities. Similarly, they truly believe any opposition to them comes from a desire to do evil -- because leftists are all angels with totally pure motives.

The modt fortunate thing is the most delusional in their ranks are the ones least likely to engage with the real world. The least fortunate is they still have influence and even power.
