Senator Ted Cruz: No money for UN until Israel decision reversed
2016-12-26
[The Hill] Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) vowed Saturday to not allow the U.S. to give money to the United Nations until it reversed its Friday decision forcing an end to Israeli settlements.

Cruz tweeted that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding, "No US $ for UN until reversed."

Cruz's tweet echoes the sentiments of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who said Saturday he would propose halting U.S. funding to the U.N. as well.

"It's that important to me," Graham told CNN. "This is a road we haven't gone down before. If you can't show the American people that international organizations can be more responsible, there is going to be a break. And I am going to lead that break."

The U.N. voted 14-0 Friday to stop Israel settlements in areas of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. President Obama authorized the U.S. to abstain from voting on the measure, drawing backlash over the decision to break from the longstanding U.S. policy of shielding Israel from U.N. reproaches.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) called the resolution "conceived" and an "outrageous attack." Netanyahu expressed anger and frustration with the vote, saying he was looking forward to working with the Trump administration to "negate the harmful effects of this absurd resolution."

The announcement came at the start of Hanukkah.

#9  "Is Cruz planning another installment of his recitation of "Green Eggs and Ham", to enforce his will?"

Sure sounds like the timing of a Maccabees revolt to me.

Barakraken did this right on Hanukkah.

Biblically, this should tell you exactly where you are with this right now.

#7  Much as unions in the US were a sop to prevent the development of the communist party in the US (it worked) The UN is a sop to keep communist revolutionaries from foreign nations bottled up. Not needed any longer, cut them loose, use the money to squash the Elizabeth Warren - Bernie Sanders wing of the dem party here at home now.

#6  The UN has a lovely campus in Geneva at the historic site of the League of Nations. Switzerland is a neutral location with all the amenities the plutocrats at the UN expect. Plus great skiing and amazing food choices. We could offer an in incentive and perhaps 10% of their budget in a take it or leave it deal. Besides, I lived in Geneva for almost 5 years and the Swiss love a circus with clowns.

#3  I'm sorry, we're 20 trillion dollars in debt. Not interested in the further indenturing of our citizens for your self indulgence.

#2  May I take the Cruz suggestion one step further ?

'No money for UN until' all the UN member nations fully recognize Israel as a sovereign, legitimate state. That should free up several hundred billion dollars per year well into the next millennium.

#1  ISIS out of control all over the ME.
Bokoharam ruining Africa.
Russia and Ukraine at each other's throats.
Venezuelans facing starvation under their government.
Greece is bankrupt.
Etc., etc., etc., and where is the UN in this?

I suggest we close down this useless group and sell its assets for distribution to troubled spots.
