| New offensive in Kandahar to begin |

| [ToloNews] Security forces have launched a military operation to clear a number of insecure areas in Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday. The officials said at least 13 villages have so far been cleared of Taliban in the district. The district police chief, Bacha, said an increase in conflicts in Uruzgan, Kandahar’s neighboring province, has affected the security of Shah Wali Kot. Therefore, the police chief said, there is a need to increase the number of security forces in the province. According to officials, more than 100 villages in the district fell to the Taliban when they attacked the district a few months ago. Meanwhile, a number of residents from the district said government should pay further attention to their safety and defuse mines that have been planted in parts of their district to target security forces. |
