[DAWN] At least nine people were killed in an kaboom in the governor's compound in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Tuesday during a visit by the UAE ambassador, local media reported. The UAE's Foreign Ministry made the statement Tuesday night, describing the attack as "heinous." It identified the maimed ambassador as Juma Mohammed Abdullah al-Kaabi. Afghanistan's Tolo News said the blast left nine people dead and 16 others maimed. The statement did not say how many Emirati diplomats were maimed. It said they were there as part of a humanitarian mission. Emirati combat troops deployed to Afghanistan after the 2001 US-led invasion that toppled the Taliban. |
