| Russian trained ‘5th Legion’ arrives in west Palmyra |

| [ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army's newly formed 5th Legion has arrived in the western countryside of Palmyra, a military source told al-Masdar News on Friday. The 5th Legion will be participating in the long-awaited east Homs offensive to liberate the gas fields north of Palmyra from the so-called "Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... of Iraq and al-Sham" (ISIS). According to an al-Masdar field correspondent in Damascus, this east Homs offensive will be led by the 800th Battalion of the Elite Republican Guard and Shaheen Group of the Tiger Forces; these units are already at the T-4 Military Airport. The 5th Legion was formed several months ago by the Russian military in order to fulfill a manpower need for the Syrian Arab Army. With the nationwide ceasefire mostly holding around the country, the Syrian Arab Army can now concentrate on the Islamic State turbans occupying much of the eastern countryside of Syria. |
