| Syria would welcome United States to peace talks in Astana, contradicting Iran |

| [ALMASDARNEWS] Any country, including the United States, that "honestly seeks to facilitate the peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict, is eligible to take part in the Astana meeting," Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad said on Wednesday in an interview with the Lebanese broadcaster al-Mayadeen. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... were not welcome to participate, and Iran stating that it did not want the United States in attendance. He made clear that Damascus had no objections to the presence of US representatives at the Astana talks scheduled to be held January 23-25, however, Meqdad stressed that Washington "will have to prove its sincerity about settling the Syrian crisis," TASS reported. According to the Syrian deputy minister, the US "should exert pressure on ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... to make it close its border with Syria," as well as influence Saudi Arabia and Qatar to prevent "them from financing myrmidon groups and supplying weapons to them." |
