Krauthammer to GOP: 'Pick a Damn Plan' for ObamaCare Replacement
2017-03-03
[FOX] Charles Krauthammer has strong advice for congressional Republicans who are reportedly divided on which drafts of health care legislation would be best to replace ObamaCare.

"The Republicans are missing the point. They need one plan," Krauthammer said on "Special Report" tonight. "So, pick a damn plan, since nobody knows for sure which one is ultimately going to be the best."

Krauthammer said Republicans cannot be "counting your pennies" at a time when they can finally draft a repeal-and-replace bill that a sitting president will sign.

He said they must make sure there will not be very many people hurt by the replacement, in that they would lose coverage.

The issue, he said, "Is so complicated, as President Trump has discovered, that nobody can predict with accuracy which of the plans will produce the outcome you want."

A unified Republican Party with a single plan will produce leverage for a "political case" to be made against the Democrats, he said.

#16  You have to convince voters or they won't vote for you. That's democracy.

#15  In that case we should just turn the Federal government over to the media and be done with it.

#14  Raj, you are right but perception is everything and the media would ensure the airwaves were filled with Trump and Congress are killing old people which would lead to a bloodbath at the midterms.

Jesus H. Christ - these Washington people are so fucking dense. If that sentence right there doesn't scream 'THEN LET THE MARKET HANDLE IT!!!', I don't know what does.

When some people here starts repeating the bullshit about what 'replaces' it, guess what? You just bought their narrative. Laws, laws, laws, just pass a fucking law and everything will be fucking wonderful. Just repeal the old law and keep Democrats away from anything you plan to do to return this back to the market. How god damn difficult is this?

#12  Well, nothing stops Trump from rescinding all the EO exemptions (I'm looking at you Congressional staffers). That would create fun was they drag this all out.

#11  If they are trying to get one (D) on board, that's ... inconceivable.

No matter what the (R)s come up with, the (D)s and their media drones will rip and snort.

#10  JohnQC, the determine flaw in your argument is just one word.

#9  They should remove the tax penalties associated with Obamacare before Tax season is upon us. The rest can take a bit longer if necessary.

#8  No longer The Hammer, just a moldy old ham bone...

#7  Here's the thing - if healthcare is super complicated then why did they promise repeal by Jan 27? Either they don't know what they are talking about, or they are weaseling out on us. Either way, not good.

I suspect they are also trying to do something that Democrats will sign off on, which is also a mistake. Those are the same folks that passed this in the first place without a single Republican vote.

#6  Krauthammer wants to rush into it. Bad call. They need to go snow and get it right.

#5  They want to read it before they pass it.

#4  He hasn't even finished his first 100 days yet. I know there are fears of McCain and McConnel's rubber spines becoming contagious but they really need to get this right. Give them a bit of time to get it right.

#3  Insurers are national.
Their actuaries can't work with small regional numbers.

#2  What's wrong with Trump's plan? Turn the Obamacare replacement plan over to the States, the laboratories of democracy.

#1  Krauthammer simply does not understand. Stock brokerage account impacts must be taken into account. Give our congresscritters a bit more time to sort out their holdings.
