Turkey ready to buy Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile system
2017-03-20
[Defense Blog] Turkey is ready to buy S-400 surface-to-air missile system from Russia on a loan granted by Moscow, Rostec state corporation CEO Sergey Chemezov said in an interview Tuesday.

"Turkey is expressing its wish, they would like to receive a loan," Chemezov told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster "As soon as an agreement is signed and a decision is made on the amount of the loan, then we will sign a contract on the supply, including the S-400."

The S-400 Triumf (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler)is an air defence missile system developed by Almaz Central Design Bureau of Russia. The new system replaced the S-300P and S-200 air defence systems of the Russian Army.

China was the first to buy the Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile systems. It was announced in the spring of 2015 that the relevant contract had been signed. According to media outlets, the deal was worth about $3 billion.

Soviets using the Turkey/Syrian border as a beta test site?

I note they are in a good position for observation by northbound polar orbiters with NRT ground station downlinks to Ukraine, Moscow, Kazan, et. al.

#3  S-400 works well in tests

someday, it may be tested in live fire - if it fails then there will be a lot of unhappy customers
