| Jihadist rebels mobilize in northeast Latakia for new offensive |

| [ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and Harakat Ahrar al-Sham ...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014... have been mobilizing their forces in the northeastern countryside of Latakia for a new offensive against the government forces. A military official told al-Masdar News on Wednesday night that Syrian Arab Army drones captured images of jihadist rebel reinforcements arriving to the Jabal al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains) and Jisr al-Shughour regions along the Latakia-Idlib axis. According to the military official, the Syrian Arab Army expects the jihadist rebels to launch offensives in both Jabal al-Akrad and Sahel al-Ghaab (Al-Ghaab Plain). This latest mobilization of forces in northeast Latakia comes around the same time the jihadist rebels fired over 25 rockets towards the Russian military bases inside the southwestern part of the province. With Spring descending upon the vast mountains of Latakia, the jihadist rebels will take advantage of the rain and poor visibility to attack the government forces. |
