Noam Chomsky: Trump might stage a terror attack to rally support
2017-03-30
[HOT AIR] Monday the far left site AlterNet published an interview with academic and author Noam Chomsky in which Chomsky warned that President Trump might stage a terror attack on the United States to rally support for his administration. Here’s Chomsky from AlterNet:

I think that sooner or later the white working-class constituency will recognize, and in fact, much of the rural population will come to recognize, that the promises are built on sand. There is nothing there.

And then what happens becomes significant. In order to maintain his popularity, the Trump administration will have to try to find some means of rallying the support and changing the discourse from the policies that they are carrying out, which are basically a wrecking ball to something else. Maybe scapegoating, saying, "Well, I’m sorry, I can’t bring your jobs back because these bad people are preventing it." And the typical scapegoating goes to vulnerable people: immigrants, terrorists, Muslims and elitists, whoever it may be. And that can turn out to be very ugly.

I think that we shouldn’t put aside the possibility that there would be some kind of staged or alleged terrorist act, which can change the country instantly.

Far left academics like Chomsky say ridiculous things on a daily basis. What makes Chomsky's comments particularly dangerous is that his comments are accorded more weight by many on the left.

There have been numerous terror attacks on the U.S. in the past few years, including the Boston marathon bombing, the San Bernardino attack, the Orlando nightclub shooting, the bombings in New York and New Jersey and the Ohio State University attack. That's not even a complete list of terror attacks since 2013. So it's almost inevitable that there will be similar attacks during Trump's term in office. The FBI will do it's best to prevent them of course, but it's likely some attacks will take place. Now Chomsky is introducing the idea that the next terror attack will have bee "staged" in some way by the President himself. And, unfortunately, there will be people who believe it to be true despite the fact there will be no evidence to support it (because it won't happen).

I have no doubt Chomsky actually believes this proto-conspiracy-theory but it is poison for the body politic. It's no different than the false flag conspiracy stuff promoted by Alex Jones. Indeed, AlterNet has published stories criticizing Jones for claiming terror attacks are false flag events. They ought to criticize Chomsky for making similar claims.
He thinks that because the left would do it.

#16  Trump might stage a terror attack on the United States to rally support for his administration.

Chumpsky, the left has more of a history of such things than the right. Chumpsky continues to be the gadfly that he is.

#15  That Godzilla needs a Trump toupee...

And always remember that liberals often accuse Republicans of doing that they, themselves, dream of doing.

#13  Sounds like Democrat logic.

Democrat, bureaucrat, a distinction without a difference.

#12  There are still plenty of people who believe Bush was behind 9-11.

#10  That wasn't a sewer AA that was a river. So I guess the rule is you can't pour toxic sludge into a sewer but you can into a river. That sounds like bureaucrat logic.

#9  #6 M. Murder, the EPA frowns on pouring toxic waste into sewers.
Unless the EPA does it first, a la green Gold River.

I understand they are going to relax that restriction.

#5  Can we put him and Mikey Moore in a giant blender, then pour the results into the sewer?

#4  Actually, can we rule out the possibility that the "deep state" will stage a terror attack with Trump's "fingerprints" all over it?

#3  Yes, projecting. Also, lives for fantasy power play like "Wag the Dog".

#2  When you have been wrong on pretty much everything your entire life as Chomsky has, but some people still take you seriously, might as well double down.
