GOP adopts Rantburg Border Wall funding solution
2017-03-31
[Wash Times] A group of House Republicans on Thursday introduced the first major bill to fund President Trump’s border wall, saying the government could collect billions of dollars by imposing a 2 percent fee on all the money Mexicans and other immigrants send back home.

Estimates vary, but remittances from those in the U.S. to their relatives back home could top $130 billion a year. A 2 percent tax could net more than $2 billion a year, if it applied to all money regardless of who’s sending it.
"This bill is simple ‐ anyone who sends their money to countries that benefit from our porous borders and illegal immigration should be responsible for providing some of the funds needed to complete the wall," Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican, said in a statement. "This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall."

Mr. Rogers and Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania are leading the effort. Mr. Trump has vowed to make Mexico foot the bill for his border wall, but Mexican authorities have said they won’t play along.

Left without a funding source, the president has said American taxpayers will pick up the tab for now, and he’ll look for ways to soak Mexico in the long run.

#10  Good idea, but not likely to happen.

Trump probably agreed to not tax remittances in this meeting with Carlos Slim. Shortly after this meeting the Mexican President met up with candidate Trump for a photo op.

#9  The entire illegal immigration inundation actually began when the USBP had use of lethal force ROE significantly changed under Reagan and it turned into no-flag tackle football. From then on, it was a numbers game and quickly all the strategies to overwhelm the BP sectors with diversionary tactics were refined.

#8  Not a sale of hunting licenses - just permission for use of official force when called for. The check-off box would be like the one they have for political donations, but dedicated to border enforcement.

#7  Sounds like Glenmore is suggesting the sale of hunting licences. While I don't endorse that sort of thing the rumor alone would probably stop a lot of the border incursions.

#6  My brother said not to bother with the wall: messing with their money would be incentive enough. He thought 20% would be appropriate.

Yes, at 20% they might just build the wall themselves.

#5  Will this bill include H1B visa holders? That'd be cool.

#3  The transgressors don't pay income tax, GM.

#2  How about funding it with a check-off box on income tax return? If it comes with RoE that permit deadly force I'd go for it.

#1  Why don't we hear Western Union squealing yet?
Think the Mexicans will develop Sharia banking?
