Darth Bolton goes total Rantburg on North Korea
2017-04-12
[Daily Caller] John Bolton told Fox News’ Shannon Bream Tuesday that the only "way to end North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is to end North Korea."

"I don’t think there is any point in negotiating with the North Koreans," the former U.N. ambassador stated. "They aren’t going to voluntarily give up their nuclear weapons program, they’re not going to voluntarily give up their ballistic missile program."

"I think there is only one alternative here, and that’s to put enough pressure on them to have the regime collapse," he continued. "The way to end North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is to end North Korea, I think, through reunification of the peninsula."

"That’s something we should be talking to the Chinese about," Bolton added. "It will be hard for the Chinese to accept, but they’re the ones who have said for many years they don’t want a nuclear North Korea. "

#13  He probably thinks he's immune to flying lead and nuclear blasts.

#12  From Ace of Spades HQ from Notorious MWR's twitter feed:

"I've said it before and I'll say it again: Kim Jong Un is a frigging Millennial. Think about that for a minute.

Picture Shrieking Yale Girl from a couple years ago, the one who had the profane hissy fit over Halloween costumes.

Now take her mentality - privileged, entitled, demanding respect while offering none in return - and give her a bad hair cut missiles.

That is Kim Jong Un."

He is a Millennial both literally (he was born in 1984) and mentally, with the added "bonus" that he doesn't just have unearned privilege, he legitimately has NEVER had anyone call him on his shit in any lasting way.

Kim Jong Un is what you get if the Mizzou students of the world take over the reins of power.

Be fricking scared, people.

#10  I think Pudgy is on a one-way street: personal cessation. He cannot back down without losing face and self-respect, ergo, position. He might make a run for it. But who would take him? He is Hyman Roth cubed, and no one would believe the "retired [Head-of-State] on a pension" line. And outside NK he would be exposed to wet teams from any number of governments.

No, I'd say his goose is just about home-fried. I have to assume POTUS and Xi talked in those terms and about deconfliction. So the question now, really, is: how are Koreans going to reunite their peninsula? I have no idea. Carrier strike groups do have mission capabilities other than strikes.

And finally, a general observation: whereas previously (since, say, 1950) POTUSs have tolerated festering sores around the globe that have killed millions and cost trillions -- and employed thousands of goatee-scratching, drunken and lascivious pundit morons -- this POTUS, finally, appears willing to heal the sores so they are no more and also return the goatee-scratchers to the bottom of their cups and the solace of their sheets, where they came from and belong.

#9  And the rest of them noticed how Qaddafi ended up - or, rather, down.

Pudgy doesn't have the same situation to deal with. He would just proclaim victory and continue to submit his population and end up in the same place, either way.

#8  JQC, without revisiting the issue Saddam was thought NOT to have given up his WMD program. Momar's problem was that Hillary was SoS. Hopefully that won't happen again.

All that said a paranoid Pudgy probably does see it your way.

#7  There is not a lot of love lost between Korea and China. It is an Asian junior / senior relationship, a cultural thing that is largely unknown in the west. North Korea has been making noises that they are co-equals with China, which is a real slap at China. China would prefer South Korea to reign in the North Koreans, something I think will not happen in the next few millennia.

#6  Pudgy is saying to himself, Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein gave up their nukes and look what happened to them. Pudgy is not going to give up his nukes.

#5  Qaddafi gave up his when it was properly "explained" to him.

And the rest of them noticed how Qaddafi ended up - or, rather, down.

#4  Explain that continuing down this path, Japan and South Korea and Viet Nam will want nukes too

#3  A united and prosperous Korea would be a trade boon to the Chinese.

#2  The key, of course, is China. Momar had no equivalent patrone. If China says jump NK will ask how high.

Pretty much sums it up. Having said that, make the Chinese understand they are solely responsible for NK actions and will bear retaliation as well. Start cutting off the China banks from western transactions and see how fast they say jump.

#1  I generally agree with Bolton but I think this is over the top. Gaddaffi gave up his when it was properly "explained" to him.
