2017-05-04
[ARA News] The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) said on Wednesday that the Turkish army carried out 67 attacks along the border with Rojava-northern Syria during the month of April.

The YPG leadership confirmed in an official statement, obtained by ARA News, that 35 attacks were done by tanks, 24 with various kinds of heavy weapons, seven attacks by missiles, in addition to air strikes.

The YPG said they responded 16 times to the Turkish attacks, destroying several vehicles.

On 25 April, Turkish air strikes killed 20 YPG fighters in the Karacok mountain near Derik, in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province.

After the attacks, US troops visited the bombed area. The American forces also patrolled the border between Rojava and Turkey on 28 April to prevent more attacks.

Furthermore, on 30 April, Russian troops were deployed near Afrin to inspect the border with Turkey to deter more Turkish attacks.

Turkish attacks continued this month. On Wednesday, the Turkish army shot at the Kurdish Asayish checkpoint at the western entrance of Kobane city.

Furthermore, Turkish-backed rebels attacked the town of Qastel Jendo, close to the town of Efrin in the Aleppo province.

In the meantime, the YPG said that its units and allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have liberated 800 square kilometers in the countryside of Raqqa–the ISIS’ de facto capital in Syria.

Moreover, the YPG said that 95 per cent of the strategic town of Tabqa was liberated, with dozens of ISIS fighters trapped in small pockets in the city.
