Attacks on refugee homes sink to pre-refugee crisis level: report

[TheLocal.de] The number of attacks on refugee homes has decreased within the first three months of the year, reaching pre-refugee crisis levels, according to a media report on Tuesday.

The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) recorded 93 attacks against refugee homes within the first three months of the year, according to a government response to a Die Linke (Left Party) enquiry seen by the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ). That would be about one attack per day.

This was about on par with the 106 incidents reported at the beginning of 2015, before the influx of refugees peaked in the autumn of that year.

Germany took in a record 890,000 asylum seekers in 2015. That same year, the number of attacks against refugee homes also hit record levels, with 1,031 incidents reported. That was more than five times the 199 cases in 2014. Last year also saw nearly 1,000 attacks against asylum facilities.

So far in 2017, 86 of the 93 reported cases were linked to right-wing radicals, according to the report.

Outside of asylum homes, 318 assaults were reported against asylum seekers or refugees, the vast majority of which were also linked to right-wing radicals. Another 25 attacks were against hired or voluntary refugee aid workers.

Stockholm terror suspect was mentally fit at time of attack, doctors judge

[TheLocal.se] Sweden's National Board of Forensic Medicine (Rättsmedicinalverket) handed the results of its examination of Rakhmat Akilov
...the rejected asylum-seeking father of four who drove a hijacked, bomb-laden 30-ton truck through a crowded Stockholm pedestrian zone in April on orders of ISIS after he was sent back after trying to get to Syria. He killed four and injured 15, considerably fewer than he'd planned because his bomb didn't explode. This proves that Allah did not approve...
to Stockholm District Court on Wednesday, in which it concluded that the Uzbek national was not suffering from any mental issues when the attack was carried out.
The unstable ones are no good for more complicated operations.
The same is true of Akilov's condition during the investigation, doctors also concluded. As such there is no reason to consider psychiatric care as part of any eventual sentence, they judged.

German police raid homes in search of IS members

[IsraelTimes] Germany’s federal prosecutor’s office says police have raided homes in four states in connection with three people suspected of links to the Islamic State group. Federal prosecutor’s spokeswoman Frauke Koehler said in a statement that apartments and other locations were searched in Berlin, Bavaria, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday morning.

Two suspects are accused of membership in a terrorist organization on allegations they belong to IS, while the third is suspected of supporting a terrorist organization. Two are also accused of weapons violations. No arrests were made and no names were released. Prosecutors say the suspects are believed to be connected to a Syrian arrested in 2016 who was suspected of planning a bombing attack, and another Syrian arrested last week in Leipzig on IS membership charges.

German Police Arrest Two Alleged Syrian Jihadists

[AnNahar] German police Tuesday arrested two suspected Syrian jihadists, one of them an alleged member of the Islamic State group accused of slitting the throat of a regime soldier, prosecutors said. The alleged former IS member, identified only as 30-year-old Abdulmalk A., was arrested in Berlin, and his 23-year-old compatriot Mousa H. A. in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Both men allegedly first joined the Islamist rebel group then called Al-Nusra in 2012 to battle the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, with Abdulmalk A. commanding fighters. He allegedly captured a Syrian army sniper in early 2013 near the city of Tabqa, forced him to dig his own grave and slit his throat, the prosecutors said in a statement.

In mid-2013 Abdulmalk A. switched allegiance to the IS, in his eastern home city of Deir ez-Zor, joined its combat operations and then was tasked with administering the IS-captured Tabqa Dam, Syria's largest.
