Democrat Refers to Middle America as ‘Podunk, USA'
2017-05-12
[Free Beacon] A Democratic lawmaker from California referred to Middle America as "Podunk, USA," during a committee meeting last week, several sources inside the meeting told the Washington Free Beacon.

Remarks by Rep. Anna Eshoo (D., Calif.) during a closed-door Energy and Commerce Committee meeting with Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai raised eyebrows from those present.

The moment occurred when Eshoo pushed back against Pai when he was discussing expanding broadband access to rural areas.

#9  Not all of us. I occasionally like to leave the United States, after all, and California is a choice vacation destination.

#8  The amusing thing is how many people have moved here from the so-"sophisticated" coasts, and would rather have all their teeth pulled than go back for longer than a visit.

But they still bring all that socialist coastalist mindset with them, TW.

#6  Outsourcing to the middle of America is so much more heartbreaking

Only because the way of life will (continue to) be diminished by the 'coasters' chasing work.

#5  Oikophobia has infested the internationalist (i.e. hate their own nation) democrats.
Just like it has to the Labour party here in the U.K.

#4  It would be amusing to watch these snobs after the "hicks" in podunkville stop producing food for them.

#3  How utterly parochial. But about what one would expect, including the arrogant rudeness. The amusing thing is how many people have moved here from the so-"sophisticated" coasts, and would rather have all their teeth pulled than go back for longer than a visit.

But the real issue is that once the interior of the country gets broadband, they will be competing with the coast for all those telecommute jobs... and can charge less because their cost of living is significantly lower except in Chicago. Outsourcing to the middle of America is so much more heartbreaking than sending the jobs to India or the Philippines.

#2  That picture pretty neatly sums the issue up - most Dems are elitist snobs. Fuck 'em all.

#1  Like a lot of Californians, I have relatives in the Midwest. I've spent considerable time there. Yes, it is the hinterlands. But it's refreshing to go there now and see rural land, farm land, that isn't coveted by developers who can only envision massive housing tracts that will make them rich like they do in California.

And the people in the Midwest may be hicks, if that's what you want to call them. But it doesn't mean they're stupid. They are most certainly not dumb enough to get stuck in a squalid Los Angeles apartment building or get stuck in horrendous traffic jams every day attempting to get to work. The air they breath in the Midwest is not polluted and the streets are a whole heckuva lot safer.

Call 'em podunk if you want, Anna. Just don't measure your IQ against them.
