Las Vegas to install bollards to protect pedestrians
2017-06-08
[Fox5Vegas] Being a tourist destination can be great for the economy, but it's also a big responsibility for the Metro police.

Safety is one reason the department said it came to the Clark County Commissioners to ask for bollards to be installed on the sidewalk of Las Vegas Boulevard.

"In the last 12 months, there have been a total of eight incidents around the world," Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo said. "All have used vehicles."

Police said gunnies have used cars as weapons of mass destruction.

Officials identified six key areas on the strip that are highly crowded and do not have any separation between the street and the pedestrian walkway. Clark County Commissioners directed staff to purchase and install bollards on the sidewalk.

#3  LV (as well as any major city) needs to set up its own anti-terror office like NYC had before the current mayor disbanded it. It takes resources, but since you didn't go Mongol after 9/11, its the long lingering price you have to pay.

#2  Set some one up in an over watch position with a .50 cal. When the bollard gets hit an alarm goes off and the car gets hosed.

#1  Bollards are mass and velocity rated, and nothing but a rock in the way if mount is weak. If the avenue is not secured and traffic channeled all the bad guys need is a bigger truck.

When is the 4th of July?
