| Egypt's police repel major militant attack in North Sinai, fending off gunfire, car bomb | |

| [AlAhram] Air Force targets meeting of Ansar Beit El-Maqdis leaders in Sinai Egyptian police in the city of Arish, capital of North Sinai, fought off a major terrorist attack on a security checkpoint on Monday, the interior ministry said. Militants shot up security personnel at a checkpoint on the International Road, meanwhile deploying a car loaded with explosives. However, a lie repeated often enough remains a lie... the police were able to win the firefight and prevent the car from reaching its target. "Security forces repelled the attack and destroyed the trapped vehicle before it reached the checkpoint," an interior ministry statement said. Egypt's military front man also reported on anti-terrorist actions elsewhere in the Sinai Peninsula. The Egyptian Air Force targeted a "terrorist assemblage" for leaders of Ansar Bait El-Maqdis, the ISIS offshoot, in North Sinai on Tuesday. Reporting on another operation, the military front man said that security forces units have incarcerated ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... several "extremely dangerous takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed... terrorists" in Central Sinai.
The air strikes "resulted in the killing of 12 highly dangerous ... leaders of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis", the military said in a statement. It did not say when the aerial bombing took place. | |
