| Galmudug blames Ahlu Sunna for starting Herale fighting |

| [SHABELLENEWS] Somalia’s central semi-autonomous region of Galmudug ...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth... state has accused its rival Ahlu Sunna group of starting the ongoing fighting in Herale area, north of Galgaduud. Speaking in an interview with Radio Shabelle, Galgaduud governor Mohammed Ali Elmi said the battle began after militia fighters belonging to Ahlu Sunna attacked the village. Elmi has refuted the reports of inter-clan fighting in Herale by local media, saying the conflict was between Ahlu Sunna and residents, and called for and end to the festivities. "We call on both warring sides to stop the bloodshed, and solve the differences through peaceful dialogue, to avert a recurrent fight in Herale," said Galgaduud governor. The moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunna is yet to comment of the accusation. Local elders are trying to a mediate the two sides, and bring an end to the fighting, which claimed the lives of more than 10 people, including unarmed civilians. |
