Roger Simon: Is America on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown or Civil War?
2017-08-06
[PJ] On Friday, Michael Savage -- conservative talk show host and Berkeley Ph.D. in nutritional ethnomedicine -- referenced Nathaniel West's classic 1939 novel about the burning of Los Angeles, The Day of the Locust, to describe what will occur in the USA should Trump be brought down by his assorted "Globalist" enemies.

People will "resort to mob violence" when they "are finally aware of the fact that they’ve been tricked by their society, and that no matter how hard they work as middle class people" they are denied."That is what’s going to happen in this country," Savage said. "You have not yet seen mob violence in this country. You’ve seen some mob violence instigated by George Soros’ mobs. ... But you haven’t seen the thing I’m telling you is coming in this country. You haven’t seen the ’Day of the Locust’ yet."
"Deplorables" gone wild and burning down our cities? Civil war?

Savage seems to agree that the common man, whom he names Eddie, would not be amused: "And if [the left] take(s) Trump down, through (Special Counsel Robert) Mueller or through any other source and deny Eddie his vote, there will be a civil war in this country."

As is well known, Savage, a onetime pal of Allen Ginsberg and other Beats, is now considered by many to be a "conservative extremist," therefore a fringe personality from the fever swamps of conspiracy land. Nevertheless, he is the no dummy and is the author of 40 books on subjects as disparate as Alzheimer's and beer-tasting, not to mention economics and politics. Few of his critics have anywhere near the vitae.

But that's the anecdotal part. The more important question is is he right -- is our democratic republic about to explode? Can the Deep State co-exist with an awakened populace, even a partially awakened one? Increasingly, beneath all the leaks and counter-leaks, the missing emails and accusations, what we are looking at is a sclerotic system that has become increasingly built on self-preservation and not on the people's will, in fact is largely disinterested in and disconnected from that will.

#8  1700? Slightly before this time, Oliver Cromwell was Lord Protector of England, Ireland and Scotland. He and his Roundheads laid waste to Scotland and Ireland and killed many of the citizens of these two countries--it has been described as a "near genocide." He tossed out the Rump Parliament of England. He had the King executed. In other words, he drained the swamp of his day.

#7  Our political leaders are acting in the same manner as the British parliament did in the 1700's. The political leaders today, like the British parliament are not taking our wishes into account, they feel they know better and we should just accept their desires. We elected a leader and they refuse to let him represent us. They pass bogus rules and investigate him in an effort to find a reason to remove him. The adage from the two parties is, "How dare the people vote someone that is not an elite member of our group". They, both sides are not representing us, they are on the edge of tyranny. Both sides are supporting the investigation of Russia and "Trump". They are not investigating the Russian influence, or they would be investigating the Dems and Fusion GPS as well. This is nothing more that a Coup by congress to remove the leader we elected to represent us. I'm no extremist, I swore an oath. It has no expiration date. Remember, it does not take the full society, only a few percent need to come together, to be pissed off enough to take action. They are not the fringe, Deplorable's gone wild, they are patriots, the 3% that have, and will, always defended this nation....

#6  Kurt Schlicter may have had it right a few days ago when (speaking of the left's coup attempts) he said "Trump isn't our last chance, he's yours."

#5  Yes it is. All it needs is a small push to go in either direction. Currently it is on the path to a full nervous breakdown on the left. A coup or an attempt to seize power will be met with violence from the right and could lead to civil war.

We are really on the edge of something and I don't think it is good.

#4  Embrace the power of 'and'

#3  Air assets are very critical. Persistent aerial surveillance will make organizing a civil uprising quite difficult.

#2  IMHO, both. You listen to the left and it sounds like a nervous breakdown. You listen to the right and it sounds like civil war. Presently, we are somewhere in between. That could change at any time.

#1  ....what we are looking at is a sclerotic system (becoming rigid and unresponsive) losing the ability to adapt)that has become increasingly built on self-preservation and not on the people's will, in fact is largely disinterested in and disconnected from that will.

Simon describes the government of the past 50 years, possibly longer. The difference now is, they've been threatened.
