| Al shabaab militants attack AMISOM convoy near Mahaday |

| [SHABELLENEWS] Al shabaab holy warriors were reported to have attacked a military convoy belonging to African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... mission in Somalia (AMISOM) near the southern town of Mahaday on Monday. The attack began with a land mine kaboom reportedly struck AMISOM convoy, then a shootout between the holy warriors and AU soldiers erupted outside the town. According to residents, the AU troops came under roadside blast, as they left Ali Foldheere area, and heading to Mahaday in Middle Shabelle region, before the shootout ensued. Abdullahi Geeldooh, the commissioner of Mahaday, told Radio Shabelle that the holy warriors have been repulsed during the battle and no casualties inflicted on the AMISOM forces. Pro-al shabaab media outlets reported the one of the AU military vehicles was burnt down by the IED blast and killed unspecified number of soldiers. |
