Protestors Topple Confederate Statue In North Carolina [VIDEO]
2017-08-15
[Daily Caller] A group of protestors toppled a monument to Confederate soldiers in Durham, N.C., Monday evening in response to a white supremacist rally that turned violent over the weekend.

During the protest, a woman climbed up the statue located at the entrance of the Durham County courthouse and affixed a rope just after 7 p.m. EST, local CBS affiliate WNCN reported.

The group quickly pulled the statue from the its pedestal and began spitting on it and kicking it when it fell to the ground.

The statue was erected in 1924 "in memory of ’the boys who wore the gray,'" and is one of several war monuments around the courthouse. Other monuments near the site include memorials to both World Wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

"It needs to be removed," Loan Tran, one of the protest’s organizers, told WNCN Monday. "These Confederate statues in Durham, in North Carolina, all across the country."

"When I see a Confederate statue in downtown Durham, or really anywhere, it fills me with a lot of rage and frustration," Tran said.

The "Unite the Right" rally, which turned deadly Saturday, was first organized to protest the removal of a Gen. Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, Va. The rally turned into a violent clash between several white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups and Antifa.

#8  Guess if the permissive law enforcement community can't go against gangs then these domestic terrorists are safe too.

#5  Sad. Reminds me of the Taliban toppling of the Buddhas of Bamiyan. Attempts by disenchanted losers of the destruction of history and antiquities. They have assumed they speak for everyone and they have taken away the rights of others. These people are not exercising their right to free speech. They are leftwing thugs with mental problems who break the law by destroying public property. The mayors and governors who go along with this should be removed from office. Eva Panjwani, One of the Communist organizers of this protest.

#1  Evidently some public property is protected by law and some public property is not. What happens when they invade Bedloe's Island and Lady Liberty is destroyed ?
