Redevelopment in the Gaslamp and East Village have gentrified the old commercial warehouse districts with a culture clash. The problems are huge with substance abuse and mental illness prime causes along with bad luck and unfortunate events. Our strict stormwater regs went pfffft to allow bleach spraycleaning of sidewalks |

| #5 Politicians all want to be seen as being compassionate so they refuse to do what needs to be done. Look at it this way, if you don't mind sleeping in a tent on the sidewalk of a city street why should you work or try to improve your situation? There will always be suckers to give you spare change or a sandwich. But it isn't working for them or for the decent taxpaying citizens either. When tourists stop coming here because they fear hepatitis and other Third World diseases San Diego's economy will go right down the sewer. But I believe we have vagrancy laws and laws against public urination. These people need to be arrested. They should be taken to a remote site out in the desert surrounded by concertina wire. Give them food and water out there but no drugs or alcohol. Let them sit there for as long as it takes until they get the point that they are no longer welcome to pitch their tents in San Diego. |
