Harvey Weinstein expelled from motion picture academy |
2017-10-15 |
[LATIMES] Embattled film mogul Harvey Weinstein ‐ a once-dominant force in the Academy Awards who rewrote the rules of Oscar campaigning ‐ has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in response to mounting allegations of sexual harassment and assault against him. The film academy’s 54-member board of governors, which includes such industry luminaries as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Kathleen Kennedy and Whoopi Goldberg, voted in an emergency meeting on Saturday morning to remove Weinstein from the organization’s ranks in an unprecedented public rebuke of a prominent industry figure. The move marked the latest blow in Weinstein’s stunning downfall and, in symbolic terms, amounts to a virtual expulsion from Hollywood itself. |

#11 So, Dem’s Hollywood cabal gave up one of their own? |

#10 His downside would be less access to premium ladies to abuse. It is a tactic of cabal's, when one of their own is outed, to cover themselves by putting all their energy into destroying that one. Making that fire burn so bright their is little interest at poking into all the others doing the same thing. Be business as usual in a few weeks for these folks. |

#9 He became expendable to someone for some reason. Posted by trailing wife With Harvey and the Beest in the news, there's hardly any room for anything else. Perhaps that is the intent. |

#8 He is being expelled because WE found out about him. But we found out about him because they decided to release the story. Had the story yet again not been permitted, this discussion would not be happening. He became expendable to someone for some reason. |

#7 So what is the downside of being kicked out of the Academy? He can't vote for the Oscars? There are tons of people making movies that aren't in the Academy, everyone acts like being kicked out is a big deal but it seems primarily symbolic as far as i can tell. |

#5 49 Pan, as someone said, Harvey is not being expelled because they found out about him. He is being expelled because WE found out about him. |

#2 How dare you get caught! Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [a croupier hands Renault a pile of money] Croupier: Your winnings, sir. |

#1 And he now has very few options for doing the Polanski. Oscars board revokes Harvey's lifetime membership over sexual harassment scandal meanwhile Woody Allen actress alleges Weinstein RAPED her at her London home as Scotland Yard investigates Scotland Yard involvement means the European Arrest Warrant could be used. Kind of limit's Harvey's choices if he wants to "boogie." |
