#3 It seemed pretty obvious to me that on the Fitzgerald the OOD was going to be at fault. The other ship was approaching from the starboard (right) side, so she had the right of way. Also, the OOD did not call the captain to the bridge. Yes, it was the middle of the night, but when I stood deck watches, it was standard procedure to call the captain at any time there was a serious impeding problem. |
