[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israel’s air force bombed a weapons depot in Syria’s Homs province on Wednesday, adding to a series of strikes in recent weeks, according to a monitoring group. The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was still unclear whether the depot belonged to the Syrian government or its Lebanese ally Hezbollah. "Israeli planes fired rockets at an arms depot in the industrial zone of Hisyah, south of the city of Homs, the observatory’s director, Rami Abdel Rahman, told AFP. Syrian television reported "an aggression" by Israel in the region, adding that the national army had "responded". The Israeli army refused to comment on the report. The Lebanese-based, Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen television network additionally stated that there were "unconfirmed reports that Israel attacked a facility in an industrial area in the suburbs of Homs, and that the Syrian anti-aircraft systems responded" to the Israeli attack. Al Mayadeen also noted that the Syrian army responded by firing a surface-to-air missile from the base of the Syrian army's 72nd Brigade. The strike took place as Russian President Vladimir Putin visits Tehran and met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei earlier in the day, in an effort to strengthen the Russia-Iran-Syria alliance. | |
