| #4 The issue isn't so much Karzai. This kind of duplicity/deliberate deceit is par for the course in that part of the world. That's why they're shitholes. It's Bush. The guy was a failure in the private sector. His entire selling point was that he was a good manager - that he knew how to pick people. His picks in Iraq and Afghanistan have certainly not inspired confidence. Leftist historians and journalists dislike him for different reasons. But if Bush had picked a Franco or a Pinochet who smacked around the opposition while putting his nation on a sound footing, would they have much of a basis for criticizing him? Bush was an abysmal failure, whereas Obama was a great success. Bush was lousy at getting his agenda through, whereas Obama aced his agenda. |
